Εντός της εκκλησίας υπάρχει επάργυρη λειψανοθήκη στην οποία φυλάσσεται η κάρα του οσίου Γερασίμου του νέου. Τον καιρό της επαναστάσεως του 1821, οι εκλογές των πληρεξούσιων των Εθνοσυνελεύσεων της Σκοπέλου, γίνονταν εδώ. Ο σημερινός ναός κτίστηκε στη θέση του παλιού, ο οποίος χωρούσε 20 άτομα όλα κι όλα (περίπου στις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα) και είναι έργο του εμπειρικού αρχιτέκτονα Δ. Σκαπινάκη. Τα εγκαίνια του πραγματοποιήθηκαν το 1908. Η γύρω συνοικία λεγόταν «Φραγκομαχαλάς», πιθανό κατάλοιπο της ύπαρξης του Γαλλικού προξενείου στην περιοχή, το 18ο  με 19ο αιώνα.

Inside the church, there is a silver-plated reliquary housing the skull of Saint Gerasimos the New. During the Greek War of Independence in 1821, the elections for the representatives to the National Assemblies of Skopelos were held here. The present-day church was built on the site of the old one, which could hold no more than twenty people. It was constructed in the early 20th century by the self-taught architect D. Skapinakis, and was inaugurated in 1908. The surrounding neighborhood was known as “Fragkomachalas” (Frankish quarter), likely a remnant of the presence of the French consulate in the area during the 18th and 19th centuries.
