Η εκκλησία βρίσκεται στο κέντρο της παραλίας της χώρας. Είναι αφιερωμένη στη μνήμη του Αγίου Μερκουρίου του Μεγαλομάρτυρα, η μνήμη του οποίου γιορτάζεται στις 25 Νοεμβρίου. Ως το 1831 ήταν μια από τις ενορίες της Σκοπέλου. Το 1823, στο κελί του ναού, το οποίο σήμερα είναι ενσωματωμένο στο κυρίως κτίσμα, λειτούργησε το αγιογραφικό εργαστήριο των ξακουστών Γαλατσιάνων Αγιογράφων: Μακάριου Ιερομόναχου και Βενιαμίν μοναχού. Εφημέριος τότε στην ενορία ήταν ο π. Θαλάσσιος. Τη σκυτάλη στο εργαστήριο αγιογραφίας πήρε το 1831 ο μοναχός Ευθύμιος από την Ίμβρο.

Saint Mercurios (& Saint Catherine)

This church is located at the center of the waterfront promenade in Skopelos Town. It is dedicated to the memory of Saint Mercurios the Great Martyr, whose feast day is celebrated on November 25th. Until 1831, it was one of the island’s parish churches.
In 1823, within the church’s cell—now incorporated into the main structure—operated the iconography workshop of the renowned Galatsian iconographers: Hieromonk Makarios and Monk Veniamin. At that time, the parish priest was Fr. Thalassios. In 1831, the workshop was taken over by Monk Efthymios from Imbros.
